2 years old... I weigh 36 lbs and I am 38 inches tall!!! I am above 95 percentile for height and weight.. I wear 4 toddler tops and 3 toddler pants! I wear size 9 toddler shoe!! Again.. I just turned 2 last week!!

Well.. if you read my previous post, Jake was not so thrilled his first Halloween costume.. so super daddy made a run to the costume store and found a much more appropriate boy's costume!!! Super Man!! and boy did he LOVE IT!!! At first he gave us a fight to get into the costume.. but the minute he was in it... he loved it!!!

Our town always has a big Halloween parade through the center of town.. the kids go "trick or treating" at various shops on the green!! Jake met up with some of his buddies and had a blast!! Here are some pics! Enjoy!!

Our little man officially turned 2 on Halloween!!! The day before his official day, his preschool had a party/parade... he was supposed to have been Blue from Blue's Clues.. well that did not work out so well for our Jake. First off, I didn't fully realize Blue was a girl puppy.. second, the costume was a full on body suit with a head piece.. well the body suit was like wearing a fur suit and the head piece quite didn't fit our son's large head!!! He kept wanting to take the thing off!! poor child thought I was torturing him!! But he did enjoy his party!! Here are some pics!!

Birthday Celebrations and More!!...

Last Saturday we had Jake's "friends" bday party!! It was loads of fun and VERY EASY for me ;) This coming week we have more birthday celebrating to do. John's dad and step-mom are coming into town for a visit... we are actually getting Aidan baptized on Sunday ;) On Friday Jake's preschool is having a Halloween parade/party.. we will also be celebrating his birthday with the rest of his school buddies!! CAN NOT wait to see all the kids in their costumes!!! Jake will be Blue's Clues this year!! Then on his actual birthday we will go trick or treating in town and we will give him his presents ;) then on Sunday the rest of the family will celebrate!! Plus celebrate Aidan's baptism!!! All in all it will be a crazy busy weekend but ALL worth it for our babies!! Here are some pics of his party from last Saturday!!

A family friend ours asked why I hadn't uploaded new pics onto our blog.. she thought I ate bon bons and watched t.v all day :) LOL!!... well here you go Lorrie!! our sweet babies!!! Jake is thriving at preschool!! and making lots of new friends!!!! He's 2nd birthday is coming up at the end of the month!! I can't believe he will be 2!!! He's quite the character. He's got such a sweet and strong personality... I love it that he call me "Ma" or "Mom" like he's already 16 years old.. the days of "Momma" and "Mommy" are few and far between!! it's really hilarious to hear a 2 year old shout out "Ma" at the supermarket!! We are having his birthday party with all his friends on the 24th.. We are having it at a gymboree-like place.. it's called stay-and-play... the place sets up for you, provides any and everything you can need and the BEST part is the fact that it's not at my house :) On his actual birthday, Halloween, after trick or treating with his daddy, grampy and uncles we will have a couple of his close buddies over the cupcakes... then the following day John's mom, my parents and brother/sister-in-law and his cousins will be here to celebrate at his "family" bday party!! BOY he's a lucky little dude!!

Aidan is now 6 weeks old!! WOW!!! he's a little chunk of love :) He's had acid reflux since he was 3 weeks old.. we are now controlling it with prevacid... poor baby got that gene from the Slocum side!!! All in all we are well and getting a good routine down!! Hope all are well and I will try to be more aware to update the blog!!!

Introducing Aidan Thomas Slocum!!!...

Our newest addition was born on September 1st, 2009 at 8:25pm. Aidan weighed 6 lbs and 14 ozs and was 19 and 3/4 inches long!! When other parents express that each child is different, they couldn't be more accurate :-) Jake not only weighed 2 lbs more than Aidan but was about 2 inches longer!! Jake was delivered via C-Section and Aidan was born "naturally"... I put the word in quotes because there were drugs involved!!! COULD NOT have gone through 11 hours of labor without the drugs!! and having never felt a real contraction I was taken aback when I felt one!! HOLY MOLY!!! they are not a girl's best friend!!... Aidan just had his 2 week check up and we are happy to report that he's growing like a weed... just like his brother!! He's now 7 lbs 10 3/4 ozs and is 20 3/4 inches long! Jake is adjusting fairly well as a big brother and John and I are adjusting to surviving on 3 hours of sleep a night!!! (IT WILL GET BETTER IN TIME!!!) we hope :) Here are some pics of our babies!!!

First Day of Preschool!!!...

Today was Jake's first day at the Madison Learning Center!! I was already getting teary this morning packing his bag and lunch!!.. I was immediately told by John that I packed him WAYYY too much :-) We both drove him to school!! As we entered the school I had flashbacks of his life.. although not long ;-) the day he was born, the day he crawled, the day he walked... then I'm thinking he's going to preschool!! granted its only for 4 hours/3 days a week.. still felt a little tinge in my heart!! He walked into the classroom as if he had been going there for years and immediately took a chair at the table to start playing with blocks!! He took to the environment right away and didn't even notice John had left!! I lingered for about 10 minutes or so then after a hug and a kiss from my little dude off I went!! And YES I cried a little in the parking lot but knew he was having the time of his life in there!!!

It's Been A While!!!...

It's been quite awhile since I've blogged about our activities this summer... first off because I've been very lax about it and secondly I can't seem to find our usb cord for our camera :-( will be buying one today so I can post some pics!!!... So for those who've asked.... Ali and Natalia... we've been REALLY busy!!! Fourth of July in Maine with family and friends, Augustin Newport to visit Uncle Josh and Aunt Tina and back to Maine for a family wedding!! In the middle of all our travels we've been going to our beach/pool club!!! Our little dude has been enjoying all the beach and pool time!! he's a little fish :-) Jake is also starting preschool.. actually on Monday!!! He's enrolled for 3 days a week from 9-1!! Its going to be the best thing we've done for him for when the new bebe is here its going to ROCK his world and having his own "thing" will ease his anger toward us :-)

John has been really busy working.... on his golf game :-) and at work too!! I've been trying to keep with with an active toddler and awaiting the arrival of our baby boy #2!! I'm glad to say that I've lucked out that the weather has not been too brutal just until recently!! but now I'm at the point of total UNCOMFORT!! Totally ready to have him!! It could be ANY TIME so I will keep you all posted!!! I know I keep in touch with some of you through your blogs but those who are not blogged in...we hope you are enjoying the final days of summer!! Pics to come soon!!!

Friday Nights!!!..

Our Friday nights have dramatically changed in the last 3 years!! It wasn't out of the ordinary to have a dinner reservation at 9 pm somewhere in Newport!!.. Dinner and cocktails afterwards with friends was our normal Friday night ritual... and Saturday night ritual too :) Fast forward to now..I am about to go up to bed so I can get some zzzz's before our son wakes up at an ungodly hour of 5:45 am!.. but we don't feel like we are missing out on ANYTHING!! for our child is the most precious thing in the entire world!! We get the profound honor of being Jake's parents and it makes the sleep deprivation and worry all worth it!!

It just amazes me that its already June!! We have been quite the busy bees :) Every weekend we have something planned... birthday parties, beach club, bridal showers etc!! Sometimes its just exhausting!!!! Jake is now 19 months and has been growing by leaps and bounds!! talking up a storm.... he has an extensive word count... momma, daddy, doggie, juice, shoes, bye, hi, nana, pop (my dad), hat, dora (the explorer), Georgie (his favorite blankie), truck, book just name a few!! We feel he's just months away from talking in sentences!! We are so looking forward to it!! He's also the social butterfly!! his social calendar gets booked up pretty quickly!! playdates, birthday parties consume our boy's week and weekends!!

I keep blogging about John's obsession with golf.. well it has reached another stratosphere!!! he actually gets depressed if he can't play a round!! boy a boy!! I guess that's what I get urging him to play!! he's already requested his Father's Day gift!! a new set of irons!!

I am now 25 weeks pregnant and hoping that the summer months will be easy on me!! I was pregnant with Jake through the summer but this baby will be due right after summer while Jake was born at the end of October!! The pregnancy has been flying by and hoping that I passed the glucose test!! Well enough of writing.. I will leave you with some pics from the last two months!!! Enjoy!!!

18 Month Check Up...

Today was Jake's 18 month old check up!! Well.. let's say it was an experience that I will never forget!!.. First off our boy has outgrown the infant scale!! He actually had to use an adult scale.. trying to keep an 18 month old still on an adult scale was no easy task!! He weighed in at 32 lbs and is 37 inches long!!! Above 95% in height and weight!!! I was told by our pediatrician that he no longer tracks Jake on a "normal" tracker.. Jake is on his own "Jake" tracker!! On the Jake tracker he's a healthy 18 month old :)

On another note, we just came back from a 10 day trip from Hilton Head Island!! The weather was great and my parent's new home is gorgeous.. I have tons of pics but left my camera at my parent's home in CT!! So when I get it back I will post some pics of our trip :)

It's been quite some time since I've blogged, so I thought I'd give y'all an update of the happenings at the Slocum household.... Well... first off our little man has not been sleeping very well.. especially on the nights that John and I go out!! it's been a little annoying to be waken up by a screaming toddler!... although I know what I have to do but I am just too tired to have him "cry it out!!!".. but sooner or later I will have to let him!!! John and I have been slowly doing small renovations in our home.. we just got the hallway painted so we can frame portraits of us and Jake.. wait.. I don't have pics of us or of Jake!!! I am going to order pics from our wedding almost 4 years ago and finally having a professional take pics of Jake and the family.. We are using a local photographer who comes highly recommended through friends!!. and I can't wait!!

In a week Jake and I will be going to my parent's home in Hilton Head for vacation!!.. I am hoping my little man will cooperate and sleep better down there... but I highly doubt it!! I'm looking forward to some beach time, pool time, dinner out time and maybe some relaxation time.. (My sister, my grandmother, my aunt and my mom will be there so I will have some help!!!) All in all we are all happy and healthy and hope y'all are too!!

Silver Sands!!...

Although we have a week long trip to Higgins Beach over the fourth of July, our summer was wide open!!! I did a little researching for beach clubs or pool memberships around us.. then found this http://nearhome.com/ct/easthaven/silversands/calendar/index.htm.. Its only 20 minutes away from us and has all the amenities I was looking for.. beach, pool, cabanas, tennis, restaurant and loads of activities for young children.. and luckily a group of friends have also decided to join the beach club as well so Jake will have buddies to pal around with!! I am over the moon that we found this place!! now my worries of "its 10 am, 80 degrees and can't decide what to do with an active toddler!!" are put to rest!! I assured John that we will use the club as much as possible.. actually he threatened me that if I am not there everyday I will be in the dog house.. with the cost of this club we could have taken a vacation to Paris!! Thanks Daddy!!!

It's Been Awhile!!!...

Its been awhile since I've blogged! One of our major reasons for not doing so is the fact our camera died on us! We are researching to purchase a new one... I've asked around and it seems as though the Canon Rebel is a total winner!!! So when we have our new camera I will make sure to post pix and videos of our guy!!!

Jake is thriving and growing like crazy!! He's become extremely verbal and active.. non stop activity from the minute he wakes to the minute he zonks out at night. He's become a social butterfly.. he's got 2-3 playdates a week, sometimes 2 in one day and loves to be with other kids!! In a couple of weeks he will be starting a gymnastics camp... tumbling with tots.. its basically where he can run around for 45 minutes!! should be funny to watch ;)

We just returned from Florida and I immediately caught a sinus infection! UGH!!!.. We had a great time with Grampy and Granny... Jake got to indulge in one of his FAVORITE activities... swimming!! lots of swimming!! He's our little guppy!! he loves to be in the water.. John got to indulge in several rounds of golf.. while I was able to spend a couple hours at the salon getting my hair done!!

We have a busy spring ahead of us and will make sure to keep all of you updated!!!

An Eventful Day!!!!..

Jake had a very eventful day today!!! To start we ventured to Quest Diagnostic Lab to get some blood drawn.. the routine blood work for his age.. checking for iron and lead.. When we got there the techs warned me that children tend to cry when the needle is injected into their arms... He didn't even flinch!!! not even a whimper!! he just stared at the lady to say.. "Lady as if this is going to do anything to me!! I've been bitten by a dog and had to have 10 stitches in my face!!" The tech was astonished and I was so proud of our brave but tough guy!!!.. Then if that wasn't enough we were off to Snip Snaps for his first official haircut.. He was actually sportin' a mullet!! It was time.. Again, he did GREAT!!.. He just sat in his race car watching Dora while the hairdresser gave him his cut!! After the big boy cut he now really looks like John!! Even check out the facial expression!! Classic John!!! I swear something are really hereditary!!!

Preschool Search!!!..

John and I have decided to enroll Jake into a preschool setting program in the fall.... Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday mornings from 9-12. So we have been searching for the perfect school for Jake!! several of my friends have enrolled their children into the Madison School for Young Children.. it's more curriculum based than most preschools and has an amazing reputation. Basically when you become pregnant you put your child on the waiting list!!! Fortunately, our friends have put in a great word for us with the Director and we have a meet and greet tomorrow.. If all goes well and if she can find "room" we will find out on Friday if he can attend in the fall... If all else fails John has suggested we bribe the Director with free booze!!! Hopefully we won't get to that point!! LOL..Crazy at 1 years old we have to go through this process!! I thought it wouldn't happen until he applied to college..Wish us luck!!!

He did it!!!.. Let me clarify.. what I mean by he "did it" is he actually DID his business in the bath tonight!! He was crouching in THE position playing with one of his bath toys... Then I hear THE grumblings.. you know what I mean.. uuuggggghhh. uuuuuggghhhh..Then I see two brown balls floating near his bottom!!! OMG!!! I didn't know whether to laugh or vomit!! I did a little bit of both.. We threw away all the toys that where in tub and I immediately disinfected the tub!! I am guessing that this will not be the last time he will be his #2 in the tub! AWESOME!!!!

It feels like we've had snow for a week straight!!! I've got a count down going when I will be in sunny Florida! IT CAN'T GET HERE FAST ENOUGH!!!.. On another note, I think our little man is getting another cold! Let's just hope its not the friggen virus he had because we are leaving in 3 days for Charlotte and I don't want to go through that crap again!! We've started to pump him w/ Tylenol and Motrin so hopefully we have nipped it in the bud!!

Since we've returned from our vacation, Jakey has been fighting off a gnarly virus! Its lasted almost a week so far.. vomiting/chills/coughing/runny/snotty nose. This is the first time he's really been sick.. he's had colds before but NOTHING like this! We really hope he gets to be a 100% soon!!

Besides Jakey being sick, we've been trying to get back to "normal".. putting away all our summer clothes, doing laundry and getting our house out of Christmas mode! This weekend we are staying settled in our home... we are supposed to get 5-8 inches of snow on Saturday!! Ugh! So over the snow! Can't wait to be in the warm weather again!! For now John and I are looking forward to our mini-vacation to Charlotte!

2 Christmas and a Family Vacation to Florida!!!..

Happy New Years Everyone!! Wishing all my family and friends a very happy and healthy 2009!!!.. We had a very busy holiday this year! We went to celebrate Christmas Eve w/ Mame, Uncle Josh, Aunt Tina and Uncle Toby! Then off to Nana and Pap's on Christmas Day to celebrate w/ mommy's family!!! All in all our little dude had 2 Christmas and received TONS of toys and goodies! He is ALL set w/ toys until his next birthday/Christmas!! After Christmas Nana and Pap took the fam down to Amelia Isalnd Planation for some sun, golf and fun! It was a blast!!..

2009 surely will be a fun year for the Slocum Family!! Near the end of January John and I will be flying down to Charlotte to visit w/ my sister and good friends whom we rarely get to see! In February we will be going back to Florida to visit w/ Grampy and Granny ( John's Dad and Step Mom) and in April a trip to Hilton Head!

Its snowing and raining outside so we've been housebound for the last couple of days!! Jake has assumed the position of the couch!! He's taken control of the remote control to the chagrin of his daddy!!! Now instead of Sportscenter and football its Franklin, Wow Wow Wubbzy, Blues Clues etc!! The picture explains it all!!! LOL~

Too Much To Do!!

Its 8 days before Christmas and I've just started shopping last week!! I feel just alittle overwhelmed with so much to do BEFORE Christmas! This year will be our LAST year traveling. Like the last 7 years, we've celebrated Christmas Eve w/ John's mom in Cheshire. Wake up at the crack of dawn so we can celebrate Christmas day w/ my parents in Wilton. I'm just not looking forward to doing that w/ a 1 year old! Fortunately, this is the last year my parents are in CT and we've asked John's family to come to our house next year for Christmas Eve! On top of athat I've got to pack up the family for our trip to Amelia Island in Florida.... shorts, t-shirts, bathing suits, golf clubs and accessories so on and so forth!

Back to shopping.. thank goodness of gift cards and the fact that most of our family members will be getting them this year!! I've made up my mind to finish ALL the shopping by this week and have everything wrapped! That's my goal and I plan on sticking to it!!!...LET'S HOPE!!

Turkey Day!!...

This year Thanksgiving was much more relaxed for me!! Last year Jake was 2 months and breastfeeding CONSTANTLY! may I add and I was a little bit worn down from it! But this year it was so much fun to see Jake movin' and groovin' at Mame's house (John's Mom). We ate and drank really really well! And by the time Saturday came around all three us were happy to be home! Plus Jake and I caught colds! UGH! sucks to be sick and to have a sick child!! But we are on the mend and looking forward to some Christmas Cheer!! Can't believe it!! But here are some cute pics from Thanksgiving 2008!!

Not a good week!!!...

So our beautiful 1 year old son needed 10 stitches on his left cheek because he was bitten by my parent's ornery, spoiled old dog!!! Last Tuesday night, Jakey and I were spending the night at my parent's house so I can get my new CT license the next morning!!... It's 7 pm and its time for Jake's nightly bottle and bed time! I'm in the kitchen watching our little dude playing w/ his toys and I turn around for literally ONE SECOND and I hear him SCREAMING!!! I turn around and all I see his our son's head down and the dog is looking at me!!! I THEN LOSE IT!! I pick him up and I see two gouges on his cheek and blood is coming down his face!!! My mom and I get him in my car and rush him to the hospital!!!

We were rushed into the ER and at this point the doctors are telling us he definitely needs stitches and wants to know if we want him to do it or call a plastic surgeon.. before he can say another word I tell him to call the plastic surgeon.. I didn't want the ER doc to go at my son and take the chance of scaring! We wait for about 45 minutes for the surgeon to arrive.. and this is where my real nightmare begins... they proceed to wrap my child up like a mummy and tape his shoulders and thighs.. he literally can't move and his screaming and crying!!! I then have to hold him down while they inject needles in 5 DIFFERENT places in his cheek!!!! I am shaking and balling at this point and all I want to do is wake up from his nightmare!!! The surgeon puts in 5 stitches in each site was told to keep an eye on it because they might get infected!
The next 2 days I am washing and changing his dressings twice a day... then on Friday I KNOW SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT!!! I called our pediatrician and tell him that one of the areas looks infected! I tell him that every time I go near the area to clean it HE.GOES.BONKERS!!! I can just lightly touch it and he screams in utter pain! The pediatrician tells me to come in so they can look at it... He proceeds to tell me that the stitches look "excellent" and that I have nothing to worry about!!! I feel somewhat better but still alittle worried!
So its 5:30 pm and he's bathing I am cleaning the dressing and I see puss coming out! Out of the tub and I am rushing to the ER.. I call the plastic surgeon and he tells me NOT TO GO TO THE ER!! He will keep his office open for me so he can personally see Jakey.. We live 45 minutes away from his office!!! (Oh BTW, John is on his way home from a 2 day business trip from NYC! He meets us at the doc's office)
The minute he looks at Jake's face he tells me that "a mother's instinct is never wrong.." the areas are infected... Now I have to hold my child down again while he proceeds to take out some stitches and drain out the puss UGH!!!.. in the middle of it John walks in.. He tells me to go out of the room and he will take over from here!! I go out to the waiting area to hear my son screaming like he did on Tuesday night!!
After what seemed like forever, John and Jakey come out!!... It's finally over! Thank God!!! Our follow up appointment is this Monday and hopefully the rest of the stitches come out and we can go on living somewhat normal!! Even w/ all this traumatic instance, he's still our happy go lucky son!! God bless him!!!

So we went for our 1 year old check up today!!!... and its kinda scary how big he's getting!! He is definitely following in Daddy's foot steps.. Jake is now 34 1/2 inches and weighs 27.2 lbs!! I asked the doctor if he could just give me a ball park number of how tall our man was going to be.. although he said that he hates to guess and spectulate.. but just how Jake has been plotting, he would "conservatively'" estimate that he will be at least 6'5"!!! Maybe even play football!!

We've been quite busy the last couple of weeks!! With Jake's 1st bday party, family visits and getting my house back into working order has been quite tiring!!! On top of that, Jake has finally gotten a molar!! and the thing is friggen HUGE!!! And the drooling has reached its peak! I no longer put a bib on him! its just useless!! and I'm quite tired of looking at him in a bib! His "walking" has stalled!! He loves it when we "walk" with him.. even just with one hand.. but as soon as we let go and he realizes that he's standing by himself.. he folds like a cheap suit!!! But like my mother in law says, "no on crawls to Kindergarten.." This weekend our goal is to clear out his closet and drawers of his "baby" clothes so we can make room for his "big boy" clothes!! 2T to be exact!! He has his 1 year doctors appt on Tues so I will post his stats!!!

I am writing this blog today so I can get some feedback on the different kinds of sippy cups your child(ren) uses!! Jake is almost 1 is REFUSING to use a sippy cup.. I mean he's just using the friggen thing throw/chuck/ bite.. everything except to drink out it! I've tried every brand, avent, playtex, gerber and nothing is WORKING!!! I know he can do it but when that cup get placed in front of him, he cries and yells until WE feed it to him!! Please if anyone has gone through what we are going through, let me know HOW we can help our child use his sippy cup!!

John and I are just AMAZED by how fast his first year has gone by.. feel like I just blinked and BOOM he's going to be turning 1! Oh my goodness, I thought that my child was going to have a nervous breakdown this morning! His all time, favorite, can't sleep w/out blankey George was NO WHERE TO BE FOUND!!! You are now wondering who in the right mind would name a blanket "George".. well.. from the minute he was introduced to this blanket he just LOVED it!! we didn't have a name for a long time.. just blankey.. then one day I come home and John is asking where "George" is!!!! He kept saying, "Jake, let's find go find George so you can take a nap.." At this point, I am looking at my husband as if he has completely lost his marbles!!! I say, "who are you talking about babe... who's George and why are we looking for man who will help our infant child take a nap.." Then he shows me blankey and turn it over and the maker of the blanket is George.. so thus the name!! Anywho, this am our child REALLY needed a nap!!! woke up at 5:30 am and was Mr. Cranky Pants all morning!!! so finally its time for the bottle and George and Nap.... got the bottle and George is no where to be found.. I looked everywhere.. his bed, our bed, under the bed, in our family room.. finally after bitterly crying for 25 minutes while I searche and navigate my entire house for George, he falls asleep.... to wake up 45 minutes later!!! Needless to say I finally found George... it was stuck in his pack and play underneath all his toys!! don't know how that happened.. Take a look at how happy he was to finally reunite w/ George!!

I swear we think we have this parenting thing down... then all of the sudden "bang" you get suckered punched in the face!!! Jake has been drooling like a sieve ever since he's been 3 months.. He's has 8 teeth it seems like FOREVER!! But when he started to wake up at night a 3 am and not wanting to get back to sleep.. we were BAFFLED and EXHAUSTED!!! It took me a couple of days to realize that it's his friggen 12 month molars and a heapin' dose of Tylenol throughout the day and night would help his crankiness. Whewww, everything is solved...NOT!!! Then he started to get lethargic and didn't want me to put him down.. he also spiked a fever.. but I attributed all this to this teeth.. WRONG AGAIN!!! cause he started to projectile vomit all over... and the direction of his vomit always landed on me!! So, at this point I am about to start licking windows for I am just totally and utterly at my wits end!!! FYI.. I also thought this would be the BEST time for me to switch his formula!!!! I'm such a rookie!!! WTH was I thinking!!! So I called our pediatrician and fortunately he doesn't have an ear infection but he is fighting a cold and getting his molars.. and we are now back on his usual formula.. last night he only woke up at 2:30 for he had a wet diaper. I changed him, gave him his usual formula, and some more Tylenol and straight back to bed until 7:00 am!! The moral of this story is that I learned some lessons the very hard way - Keep It Simple Stupid!!!

Today was my first day at Teddy Bear Rhythms!! and boy was it AWESOME!!! to be honest with everyone I LOOOOOVVVEEDDD IT!!! Mommy's friend Therese and her babies Jake and Jaden came too!!! Miss Gail was such a great teacher! She played the guitar and piano and we all sang along! Plus I got to rock on the a big drum!! and if you listen closely to the video I can drum out my own name!! Pretty Cool!! I can't wait to the next class!!!

We've been quite busy!... w/ the end of summer comes lots of activities for our Jake!!! I hate sitting around the house w/ nothing productive to do... so I've signed him up for several things this fall!! so he's nicely scheduled w/ fun things to do!! On Mondays and Thursdays he's going to be going to Lasses and Lads a creative activity center where he can romp around in the gym to learning how to speak Spanish! I get a list of weekly activities and find the best one for our Smagortzy =) On Tuesdays he and I will attend a music group called Teddy Bear Rhtyms.. this is where kids his age can play and learn through music and instruments.. I've gotten great feedback from other moms about this program! I know he will love it and I will love watching him! The last thing he will do will be on Fridays where I am trying to sign him up from "mommy and me" swim class... although I think I've missed the deadline.. oops! This swim class is daddy's request! I think he wants Jake to swim like Michael Phelps by the time he's 2! seriously... he really wants to Jake to learn to swim before he really becomes fearful of the water!.. All in all it will be a great fall.!!!.. plus we all are gearing up for his 1st Birthday Party!!! Hope everyone is well and have a great week!!!

Last Days of Summer!!!!

We went back to the beach for our last summer getaway! It was too short but we all had a wonderful time!!! We were able to invite our good friends Beth, Dave and Josh to enjoy the last days of summer together. More importantly our sitter Lorena and her daughter Nikki were able to come along so John and I were able to have some "mommy and daddy" time!!! which in turn meant lots of golf =) We took the kids to an amusement park and of course they loved it! Jake went on a "car" ride w/ Lorena and Nikki.. although he didn't love or hate at the time but about 15 minutes after he got off the ride he projectile vomited all over himself and his stroller!!! OMG!!! and needless to say that was the end of our amusement park day! The rest of the weekend was much more calmer.. lots of walking on the beach and enjoying our surroundings before heading back to reality!! We hope everyone had a wonderful summer!

9 Month Check Up!!....

Well.. its really like "almost 10 month check up" because we are only 5 days away from my 10 month birthday day.. so it goes like this.. I am 33 inches and weigh 25.3 pounds!!!... yea you can say I'm a biggen!! So my mommy called my Mame to see where my daddy was at 9+ months... now if you are NOT sitting down.. this may be a good time....... ok... so my Mame doesn't have his 9 month stats but had his stats at 13 months.. and my daddy was 34 inches and 29 pounds!!!! Enough said!!

This Saturday we crashed a birthday party for a 3 year old girl we didn't know!!!... well our friend Jon was letting his neighbor borrow his yard for the party.. their house was being renovated... so Jon asked if we wanted to come and hang out!! At first we were hesitant but we wanted to see our friends Jon and Deneen!!... To our surprise their neighbors were really cool and the party was a lot fun!!! Jake got to mingle w/ new peeps and DOMINATED anyone who got in his way!!! He even got to play in a moon bounce!!.. He's just so big for he's age!! there was a boy at the party named Adam who turned 1 the previous day... we put them side by side and it was just amazing how much bigger Jake was!! Let's hope he gets taller and bigger... we have high hopes of him being an athlete =)

The 'dude' has been getting around and around and around!!! NONE STOP!!! but with the none stop action he is FINALLY sleeping through the night!!! We never thought this day would ever come but it has and it feels sooooo good =) Anywhoser... he has taken to getting into our cabinets.. although most cabinets are off limits I have left one unlocked w/ plastic tupperware.. he makes a b-line for it everytime!!! Sooo friggen funny and its really cute to see him playing w/ it..

So.. he does it!! says his first word!! normally its the traditional "momma" or "dadda".. Oooohhh no not our son.. Jake's first word is "bye-bye"!!! to boot he waves "bye-bye"!!! He is now the bye-bye king!! Bye bye to daddy when he leaves for work, bye-bye to the techs who came to install our tvs, bye-bye to our neighbors.. you get the picture ;)

And just yesterday, while I am trying to straighten up his playroom, Jake stands up on his radio flyer wagon.. and... TAKES OFF!!! Now its good-bye and have a nice day to you mommy!!! He is just in constant motion all the time!! and now all he wants to do is "walk" w/ his wagon!!

It was another busy and exciting weekend at the Slocum household!! by Sunday night Jakey couldn't wait to go to bed... It's been 7 months since we moved into our new home and I had enough of looking at the white walls.. when we first moved painting wasn't on the top of the to do list.. now we've settled in, I wanted to get our home painted.. I called around got a couple of quotes.... almost fell off the chair when I got them!!! just to get our kitchen and family room painted the LOWEST quote was $2000!!!..... you didn't read it wrong.. that's 3 0's following the 2.. $2000!!! Needless to say we weren't going t be paying anyone to paint and we were fortunate enough to get our good friend Jon to volunteer to help.. he painted and built homes throughout college and he knew exactly what to do!! so on Friday he came over, prepped and painted our family room!!! then on Saturday morning we painted our kitchen!! The results are AWESOME!! and very cost efficient.. it colors made our family room and kitchen more warm and inviting!! we've now on our way to paint our entire first floor!! On Sunday John's family came over.. Uncle Josh, Aunt Tina and Mame!! we haven't seen Uncle Josh and Aunt Tina since their wedding in June so it was really nice catching up w/ them!!! On to Jake... he has been an eating machine these days.. although at times his teeth hurt too much that I have to give him baby food...but w/ the large amounts of teeth his got he can eat graduate meals.. his favorite is the beef raviolis!! And now at meal time we have to entertain him any which way we can so he sits still!!! so John has been sword fighting.. well its spoon fighting w/ him so I can feed him ;) its pretty funny!!

Jake has been seriously cutting teeth since he has been 3 months old!!! Add that to being a newborn, being stickly breast feed for 6 months and constantly cutting teeth and of course growing all adds up to that he has NEVER fully slept through the night for 9 straight months!!!! So we have not slept since October 31, 2007!!! Unlike his friend, Izzy Kaiser, who seems like has been sleeping through the night FOREVER, our boy still hasn't attempted this sleeping through the night thing!!! Now he's cutting his molars!!!!! Holy S$%T!!!!! Sleep has become a mere distance memory for John and I!!! For the last couple of nights we are lucky to get about 4 hours of sleep total!!! We give him tylenol and rub benedryal on his gums and still he wakes up... So to all mothers (fathers too) who read this blog, pray for our sanity!!! because I think we may end up loosin' it soon for the total utter lack of sleep!! pray that our son gets through this phase as soon as possible!!! Thanks!!!

This weekend I finally got to meet my new girl cousin, Alyssa! She was born on July 3 and weighed in at 6 lbs and 3 ounces and was 18 inches long! She was really really small and slept most of the time. My mommy and daddy were amazed to see such a small baby for I NEVER was ;) I also got some lovin' from my Pap, my Uncle Mark and Aunt Stacy!!! and to top it off I got to play w/ my cousin Kai too!! I tried to keep up w/ him but he's got that walking thing down and I'm just learning!

Boy oh Boy!

I can't believe in just about 4 months our precious boy will be turning 1!!! I'm so glad that he was born on Halloween!! I have tons and tons of GREAT ideas for his big milestone.. although I've been warned by my hubby not to go over the top because Jake will not remember it..but I know in his heart that I'm really not going to listen! Jake just amazes us everyday! He's so active and such an alpha boy. He plays with his trucks, smashes his toys and bangs the ever living crap out of everything he can get his hands on!!! He now has to eat his meals out of bowls that John and I eat out of w/ a regular spoon! He thinks he really is the cats meow;) He's eating real bananas (smashed up of course) and real applesauce! He's even gotten a taste of ice cream (thanks to this Nana!!)....trust me I wasn't too thrilled! And just yesterday he realized that he can make things happen with his hands.. he started to wave "bye bye" on cue ;) He realizes that if we say and do the gesture that he is suppose to the same.. although his wave isn't perfect yet.. it more like a cupping gesture.. it's still an amazing thing to watch as a mommy! Hope you all enjoy it!!

My First 4th at Higgins Beach!!

Ever since I was a little girl, my family has spent our summers in Maine!!! one of our favorite places in the world is our beach... Higgins Beach!!! And I always knew that I wanted to take my children here so they can experience all the fun things I did... swimming, kayaking, crabbing.... although our little dude is too young to do all these things ;) he did have an action packed 2 weeks!!! Our trek (it took about 4 1/2 hours) was pretty smooth going up to the beach but coming back NOT SO MUCH!!! let's say Jakey had several melt downs on our way home!!! But as soon as he got to our house, he got LOTS and LOTS of attention from his Nana, Pap, counsins and especially from his Auntie Meg!!! And a big shout to Meg who watched the Smagortzy (John's lovely nickname for our son) while we played golf everyday!! John is actually getting really good!!! Our afternoons consisted of swimming in his "pool", hanging out w/ family and enjoying lots and lots of fresh seafood... not Jake but all the adults ;) Take a look at our two weeks!!! This past week was very busy for me and my family!!! And to be honest with you, I've got a cold too :( But it was a amazing and memorable week! It started off when my Grampy and Granny Myra came from the Lake to visit mommy, daddy and myself... we had lots and lots of fun and laughs!!! Then we were off to the Saybrook Point Inn for Uncle Josh and Aunt Tina's wedding festivities!!!! It was so nice to see all my extended family... and of course my Mame was there to give me lots and lots of hugs and kisses ;) The rehearsal dinner to the wedding went off without a hitch and we all had such a great time!!! Aunt Tina looked like a fairy princess and Uncle Josh her prince charming ;) My mommy and daddy had an extra good time because I slept over with Mame the night of the wedding!!! June 17, 2008 (just a week shy of 8 months!)... the day John Kenneth McLean Slocum II started to CRAWL!!!! The day started as any other day... I fed Jake and was about to enjoy my morning Joe... when he just got up on all fours and started to crawl... I thought it was a fluke so I waited and he did it again.!!!.. so I got our vidoe camera to capture the moments!! Well.. you can take a look for yourselves!!

What I mean.. by it starts is... the eminent totally manic craziness with our son running around like a manimal around the house! A couple of nights ago AT 2 AM!!!, I hear rumblings from the little man's room.. I go in and see him bright eyed with the biggest sh%$ grin on his face and HE IS SITTING UP!! and might I add with his arms dangling over the crib! I really didn't know what to do! I am so happy to see that he hit another milestone but am p.o'd that now I have to have another all nighter with him trying to get him back to asleep... (he finally went to sleep at 3:30) Needless to say by grumpy husband (John is such a bear to wake from sleeping!!) doesn't want him back in his crib so Jake sleeps with us! The very next day, I pull out my tools and go at the crib.. it takes me about 45 minutes to take apart the spring and I lower it to the lowest position! Its so low that we now can't give him kisses at night and me being vertically challenged has a hard time even lying him down to sleep ;) Take a look at how close Jake is to crawling and him sitting up!!!!

Just a month ago, Dr. Stein told me some awesome news!! I was 2o inches and weighed 30 pounds.. I am in the 95th percentile for my height and weight!! We called my Mame and she was astounded!! So she checked my daddy's baby book and I have him by a 1/2 inch at 6 months!!! Dr. Stein also told me that I was very advanced because I got my two front teeth at 4 months and now I have 3 upper teeth already!! Needless to say, I am in pain, chewing on anything I can get my hands on and drooling like a mad man!!!.... still I love to laugh and play with my toys.. or my bib.. which ever I can grab ;)

I wanted to let everyone know that my "men" (I use the term loosely!)... treated me to a wonderful first Mother's Day... We went to Mame's house on Saturday.. and John and Uncle Joshua cooked a great meal... steaks, smashed potatoes, green beans and for dessert cravel ice cream cake!!! (Jakey and Uncle Toby gave moral support!!!).. On Sunday John cooked burgers on the grill and enjoyed an early evening of wine and more cravel cake!!! All in all I had a wonderful first Mother's Day!! (plus I got a great set of golf clubs!!)

I know I have lots and lots of toys to play with... but one of my favorite things to play with, chew on and just go crazy with is my daddy's sunglasses... so when my daddy tries to take it away from me when I wasn't ready to give them up.. I GET REALLY REALLY MAD!!! And my mommy and daddy are suckers because I've figured out how to get what I want when I want it!!!

Meal time with Jakey has now become an event!! Now that he is eating more solid foods (like carrots, sweet potatoes, etc) the messier the meal time has become!! Mommy's First 5K!

I wanted everyone to know that my mommy ran her first 5k road race! Both daddy and I were suprised when she decided to run in the road race but that's our mommy always full of surprises!! But we are so proud of her because not only did she finish the race but she did it in 29:39 seconds!!! Now she's addicted!!! Let's see how fast she runs in her next 5K!!!

It seems like just yesterday when John and I brought Jake home from the hospital!!! I've been home with him every since he's been born and got to experience all his developmental milestones but this one takes the cake!!! A month or so ago he's feet hardly touched the ground... now he gets sooo excited to see John and I that sometimes we are afraid that he's going to jump right out of his jumper!!!

Hoppy Easter and Plus Some!!

My first Easter was really amazing! My Auntie Meg came up from Charlotte early to spend some quality time with me, mommy and daddy! She even took me on a "walk" After tons of TLC we were off the Nana and Pap's! I haven't seen them in so long..especially my Pap! I got lots of hugs and kisses too! I even got to see my Uncle Jay!!

Easter Sunday the Easter Bunny knew I was at my Nana's and he left me a basket full of candy and a stuffed animal of well..himself :0 After breakfast we put on our Sunday best and were off to church.. After church we went to the club and I got to see the real Easter Bunny! I wasn't freaked out by him..just intriuged!

While my mommy, daddy and the rest of the family were stuffing their bellies with tons of goodies, I was passed around to be admired by all!!! I have to admit it doesn't get old hearing I am the cutuest... because its no lie... I am :)

All in all it was a wonderful Easter Weekend!

Jake has been cutting his bottom teeth like crazy... with cutting teeth he's been Mr.McDrools! His favorite thing to do is hang out in his jumper chair and chew on his toys..as you all can see how much he drools :)

We've started Jake on rice cereal about 3 weeks ago! Our pediatrician wants us to introduce a meal a month.. at 4 months 1 meal; 5 months 2 meals and 6 months 3 meals.. He's been lovin' it!! sometimes we sneak in alittle applesause (an idea that Izzy Kaiser's mom Callie gave us!) and he goes bonkers! He just loves it! I have been blogging about what our Jake the Snake has been up to! We've been so happy to watch him grow and develop! Everyday there has been something new John and I have been amazed by.. whether its smiling, laughing out loud or sitting up.. Jakey is just over 4 months and just strong as an ox. My Visit with Gramps and Granny Myra in Florida!!

My first plan ride down to Florida was great! I had no problems on the plane...just slept :) My mommy was worried about my ears and traveling by ourselves! But all went well.. When I got down to sunny Florida I got to spend some quality time with my Gramps while mommy and Granny Myra went and got a day of beauty!! She loved her massage and facial! But a day later Gramps got really sick :( But still had a great time swimming with mommy and Granny Myra. I also got to see Jupiter and Singer Island... My mommy and me missed daddy sooo much... But don't worry we are all going down as a family in April!!!

How do you like my hat??? It has a matching bathing suit but its a little too big... But still really cute! Thanks Granny Myra!!

My Mommy has been pretty lazy about uploading my blog. Sorry to my fan out there who've been wondering what I've been up to. I've been quite busy the last couple of weeks. I enjoyed my first Super Bowl Party! (although our beloved Patriots lost!) I also traveled to Newport to visit our friends Jeff, Alyssa and Rio. We had so much fun! Mommy and Daddy visited their old fav places before I was born! Here are some super duper cute pictures of me.
